When the weather forecast calls for rain I'll concede to just about any indoor activity that makes us laugh. Even gathering nearly every pillow in the house (& even a large bear) to build a jumping fort. Too bad it never rained.

looking back...
Checking into my blog tonight I just realized that not only have I not blogged since Wednesday, I evidently have also not bathed the already sleeping children since Wednesday. Oops. I suppose there is a down side to documenting our lives on the internet. Such is life. Happy Weekend!

hot, not & huh?
Please note that these are strictly my opinions and you do not have to agree. But you should also note that I am right. All images were stolen from various internet locations as I was most definitely not a guest at the Oscars tonight.
HOT!
Jen & John. I loved Jen's sweet, understated braid & her simple cream frock. It was innocent and elegant and suited her perfectly.
Alicia Keys. Always a knockout, Alicia rocked this flowing rose gown with perfectly styled hair & accessories. Elegant & easy. Loved it.
Sarah Jessica Parker in Dior Couture. I'm sure this will get shot down for looking too formal but this is Sarah Jessica we are talking about...and this is fashion. I adore her princess gown. If you can't wear it to the Oscars where can you wear it?
Natalie Portman. This one needs no explanation. Always refined & polished, Natalie is just plain hot.
Heidi Klum in Roland Mouret. Loved Heidi's hair and flashy red dress. Might have been a little too flashy for this year's *toned down* Oscars, but if anyone can pull it off...Heidi can.
Mickey Rourke in Jean Paul Gaultier. Yes, I put this under hot. Please note who this is and what he normally looks like. I think he was actually quite stylin' tonight.
Robert Downey Jr. Damn he cleans up well.
John Legend. Love everything about this dapper ensemble. Bravo.

Whoopi Goldberg. Um, ok. It's not only inappropriate but where exactly were her hands?
Amy Adams. Chest up I thought Amy looked lovely. Her hair, makeup, and even that honker of a necklace were quite stunning. But the bodice on the dress just killed it for me.
Tilda Swinton. I get the knot on the top. But talk about matchy-matchy. I'm not sure the knot on the pants was quite necessary. And the color? Probably not the best for someone who hasn't seen the sun since last year's Oscars.
Miley Cyrus in Zuhair Murad. How old is this girl? Yes, young enough to make big fashion mistakes but also far too young to wear such a bold gown. Dress your age, young lady.
Zach & Vanessa. Bad. Both of them are sporting unflattering hair styles and her dress looks like it might fly away. Tone it down Gabriella. Tone it down.
Marisa Tomei in Versace. I'm not sure I've ever seen someone so uncomfortable in their dress. She was trying way too hard. Where's the fun in that?
Bridget Fonda. She is a notoriously poor dresser but really, what WAS she thinking? Then again...who really cares?
HUH?
Meryl Streep. I love this woman. She is bright and fun and crazy smart. So, what happened when she got dressed today?
Beyonce Knowles. I get it. You're a fashionista and you have a voluptuous bod but...Huh?
Angelina Jolie. Just because you're beautiful and you want to make a statement does not mean you don't have to put any effort into getting dressed for the Oscars. This reminds me of the year Sharon Stone wore a GAP turtle neck.
Kate Winslet in Yves St. Laurent. Kate is lovely but far too overdone. It's no wonder she was the last one to arrive. Between all that's going on with the dress and all the product in her hair it must have taken her days to get ready.

After a decade here, we've really made it quite easy for our friends & family back East to make all the classic California jokes apply to us. Yes, we're liberals. Yes, we believe in global warming and act a tad neurotic about it. Yes, we subscribe to homeopathy, yoga, natural healing & organics. Yes, our kids have funny names. And, apparently, yes, our kindergarten son meditates with his friends during an afternoon trip to the ice cream parlor.
This moment was enacted entirely by the boys and with no adult participation whatsoever. And while Gage's posture and hand gesture is laugh out loud perfection I am fairly certain that the idea to meditate was not his own.
Sadly, Zuzu and I were in the restroom when it occurred. Luckily, the other parent was swift enough to catch it on his iphone. I don't imagine it lasted too long.

once upon a rainy day...
When the stacks and stacks of board games on hand just don't cut it anymore what's a stir crazy family to do? Well, we made our own. And we did a pretty good job if I don't say so myself.
It's a game of imagination & story telling.
First, we cut out pictures from various sticker books that we have on hand for our long plane flights east. From super heroes to princesses...animals and planets...dora and winnie the pooh.
Next, I found backdrops in the same sticker books. A jungle, solar system, city buildings & a pirate ship.
The premise of the game is to arrange the stickers on your backdrop and then make up a story to describe the situation. We decided that you could pick four of your own pictures and then the other person can add two more. Clearly the goal is to be wacky, combining unlikely characters and creating a far-fetched tale. Unfortunately, Gage is still working to get past the obvious superhero/star wars stories and Zuzu just rambles...but nevertheless, it's still fun!
zuzu's silent "h"
Zuzu tends to copy expressions that she hears big brother say and then repeats them over and over and, yes, over again. It's been pouring all weekend and we're all sick so there's been a lot of puppy playing, ball rolling, hide & seek, board games & crafts. Somewhere during the course of the weekend, the kids favorite exclamation became "shucks". Which is fine in general except for the fact that when Zuzu says "shucks" she doesn't annunciate the "h" and it comes out as a loud, screaming "SUCKS!" It's honestly quite funny. I'm just not sure what's going to happen when she takes that one to school and they are not in on the joke.

Meet Lucie. Or Lucy. And frequently Lulu. Hey, we've made progress.
She is our new "light" and the kids just adore her. Almost on cue, as I was uploading this photo to the blog, Gage was playing with Lucy and remarked, "puppies make your life so much more fun." And from this point on that will be my new mantra. Please remind me of it frequently.
